Being Honest

I imagine that not many people start their shiny, new blog with these words, “I need courage!” I may be the only one out there. But I dare not start any other manner, as a follower of the Way, the Truth, and the Life, than to honestly and truthfully confess:

I need courage!

A great definition

I recently heard an excellent definition by Michael Hyatt for courage that is fuelling my ability to even write this first post, “Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the willingness to act in spite of our fear and do what we’re afraid of” (<- tweet this if you’d like).

I have fear, and it is only because of the Lord God that I can have the courage to move beyond my fears and begin this new chapter in my life.

If you are anything like me, ie. human, then you have fears too.

Jeremiah 10:23 has recently climbed towards the top of my list of favourite verses in the Bible.

I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

Whew! What a relief to admit that I am not capable of guiding my own life competently.

Trusting in the Lord with all my heart

Leaning not on my own understanding

Acknowledging Him and

Submitting to my King to direct my paths (Proverbs 3:5-6)

These are pretty much all I have to focus on in order for everything else to fall into place.

Who is leading?

It has been my desire for so long to write to encourage others. To express myself to the glory of God. And for Him to use me to bless my fellow saints and sisters.

I have taken basic steps to plan my way, but it is the Lord of Heaven and Earth, the Creator of all that exists, the sustainer of everything from my feeble body to the planets that perfectly orbit in space. It is He who establishes my steps (Proverbs 16:9).

And that, my dear friends, is how I have courage at this moment, to write these words.

I invite you to join me, as a woman and as a friend, on this exciting, yet terrifying journey. The journey of living to the glory of the only Worthy One. GOD.

It would be wonderful to learn from you the thoughts that give you courage when you are afraid. Is there anything that you need courage to start or stop doing with God’s help this week? Pop your notes in the Comments section below.
