Can You Stop In The Midst of It All?

Friday night is the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath. As Messianic believers in Yeshua (Jesus) we have chosen to continue to celebrate the special days and feasts that we have inherited from our Jewish ancestors, and use them to raise our eyes to our Lord and Saviour! Being a Jew, Jesus himself celebrated many of the Jewish feasts that had been passed on over thousands of years by Biblical greats.

We tell our children that during each day of each week, they can play, talk, joke, tickle, and giggle, but during our daily, morning devotions and those few sacred minutes each Friday night when we light the Sabbath candles, say the Hebrew blessing, and remember the account of Creation, we focus more intentionally on our Heavenly Creator. There is to be reverent silence and honour during those occasions. Sabbath eve is a beautiful time, and a tradition that we all look forward to in our family each week.

After our special meal, it is also the only evening of the week where we have dessert, so there is greater anticipation than you could imagine 🙂 !

When I Stopped In The Midst of It All

As we were clearing up after the meal this evening, I stepped outside for a few moments. I gazed back toward the glowing, warm light in our home and heard whole hearted laughter through the door, observed loving conversation, and beheld the flickering candles amidst the five most treasured people to me on the earth. My heart swelled with gratitude and awe.

Sure the children fight. Of course my hubby and I argue every now and then. Yes my house often gets to the point of needing a massive clean and tidy. I confess that I undoubtedly feel overwhelmed much of the time. But I am blessed beyond any blessing than I deserve. I have more than I could ever dream of. My cup truly runneth over!

I know yours does, too, my friend. You may be wondering how you will get through this day. You are likely struggling to make ends meet, or are confused as you attempt to make heads or tails of your life. But your cup does runneth over! <–Click to Tweet

All it takes is a few moments to take a step back , grab an outside view, and look in.

You’ll see the imperfection in your spouse and children.

You’ll feel the pain of unrealized dreams.

You’ll experience the frustration of waiting for the next change in your life.

But I believe, that sooner rather than later, as you stand out there, you will also

Discover the goodness of God beyond measure,

Detect the very Presence of the Lord in your midst, and

Witness beauty that you may have taken for granted for

Far.Too.Long.

I did tonight. It didn’t take much. But it was a moment I’d like to savour when the mundane hits hard.

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

Psalm 9:1

Where are you at in life, and what can you be thankful for today in the midst of it all?
